Penne Pasta with Italian Sausage

Sausage Shrimp Pasta

This recipe will work with many different cooked and chilled pasta types - Tortellini, bowtie, spirals etc.,. I use Penne pasta because it has a hollow center which allows the sauce to get inside to make it extra creamy and rich.

In a saute pan over medium high heat add:

1 tsp. olive oil

1 tsp. butter

When the butter starts to bubble add:

3/4 cup large diced, cooked hot Italian sausage

1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

Allow the sausage to heat through and get a little brown on the outside, then add:

1 tsp fresh chopped garlic

1/4 cup white wine

1/4 cup chicken base

Cook the liquids until reduced by half then add:

1 cup prepared marinara sauce

1 cup heavy cream

2 cups cooked penne pasta

1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese

1 tsp sriracha hot sauce

stir mixture to combine and bring to a simmer. At this point you can add frozen peas, sauteed mushrooms or cooked broccoli. Simmer until sauce is thick and bubbling. Serve immediately topped with fresh grated parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley. Enjoy!
