Iron Chef America judge comes to Green Bay to host an Italian dinner
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Getting healthier, through authentic Italian food. That's the goal of the "4 the Love of Italian Food" restaurant tour led by Mario Rizzotti. Rizzotti is an Italian Culinary Expert and Iron Chef America Judge. He brought the tour to Green Bay to pair up with local restaurant owner Angelina Cervantes. The two will host an Italian dinner Wednesday, November 30th at 6pm at Angelina's. Rizzotti, Cervantes and chef Adam Weisell, Owner of Aurelia Osteria in Chicago, stopped by the set out to teach the viewers of Good Day Wisconsin what real Italian food is like.
Rizzotti brought three dishes to the studio to preview the upcoming dinner.
1) Prosecco Amore Mio - This is an Italian cocktail that is made by pouring a little Italian cherry juice in the bottom of a glass, with one Italian cherry, then topping the cherry juice off with Italian Prosecco.
2) Crostini con mozzarella e prosciutto - Prosciutto with mozzarella served on crostini toast. An appetizer that pairs well with the Prosecco cocktail.
3) Lemon sorbet topped with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. (EVOO) - In between the pasta and protein dish (2nd and 3rd course), it is typical in Italy to serve a refreshing palate cleanser. Here in the U.S. the combination of a sweet sorbet married with EVOO is unheard of. But in Italy, Rizzotti says they top sorbet, steak, salad, and more with EVOO.
Fun fact: Angelina and Mario both moved to the U.S. near the same time, roughly 20 years ago. Adam was born in the U.S. but raised in Rome for the first 18 years of his life. He moved back here to pursue school and his love for cooking. All three were shocked to come to the U.S. and see how Italian food differed so much from food served in Italy. And all three have set-out to set- the story straight here in the U.S.
