GREEN BAY (WLUK) - Comic fans unite for The Brown County Central Library's 3rd annual family- friendly Library Comic-Con. The event will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Librarian Andrea West joined Rachel Manek on Good Day Wisconsin to talk about what has become one of the library's most popular events.
West says, like the original Comic-Con, the one at the Brown County Library is for fans of particular comic books, graphic novels, science fiction, movies, television shows and games. The library will offer a variety of activities including meeting local artists; tabletop gaming; shopping in the Artist’s Alley; teen and kids’ crafts; and a costume contest. The event is free.
This year, The Brown County Library Comic-Con includes keynote speaker Nnedi Okorafor (award-winning novelist of African-based science fiction, fantasy and magical realism for both children and adults), a presentation on writing for comics with prolific comics and graphic novel writer John Jackson Miller, a discussion with UW-Green Bay Professors Dr. Ryan Martin (Psychology), Dean Chuck Rybak (English/Humanistic Studies) and Dr. Bryan Carr (Communication) on the psychology of supervillains.
There will also be a “draw along” for kids with local artist Carli Ihde and panel featuring local cosplayers who will give tips about putting together your own costume based on your favorite fandom!
West also shared a list of books she suggests for fans of all things related to comic-con.
1. The Binti Trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor (Science Fiction)
2. Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor (Young Adult Fantasy)
3. Star Wars: A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller (Science Fiction)
4. Fandom: Fic Writers, Vidders, Gamers, Artists and Cosplayers by Francesca Davis Dipiazza (Nonfiction)
5. How to Draw Wonder Woman, Green Lantern & Other Super Heroes by Aaron Sautter (Nonfiction)
