GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Librarian Molly Senechal of the Brown County Library shares a selection of lighthearted books for kids. She joined Rachel Manek on Good Day Wisconsin to talk about the following four books:
1. Inspector Flytrap (Book one in the Inspector Flytrap series) by Tom Angleberger and Cece Bell
A Venus Flytrap aims to be the greatest detective who ever grew. With the help of his assistant, Nina -- a goat with a voracious appetite -- he solves three BIG DEAL mysteries. This hilarious book could easily be adapted to a skit.
2. Horton Halfpott or, The Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor or, The Loosening of M'Lady Luggertuck's Corset by Tom Angleberger
This rollicking tale has one of the best opening paragraphs I've ever read. Full of warmth, humor, adventure, and pickle éclairs (yes, you read that correctly), it's sure to please.
3. The Bad Guys (Book one in the Bad Guys series) by Aaron Blabey
Determined to shed their villainous image, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Shark, Mr. Snake, and Mr. Piranha set out to free the 200 dogs imprisoned in the Maximum Security City Dog Pound. What could go wrong? Unfortunately, a LOT. This illustrated novel brims with wit and slapstick humor.
4. The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry
The Willoughbys is a delightful send-up of children's novels featuring plucky orphans (think Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables). There's humor aplenty for children and adults. When you've finished reading the book, watch the movie adaptation on Netflix!
