Notable athletes return for 42nd annual Bellin Run
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- An annual 10k run in Green Bay is attracting some of the best athletes in the world.
Former Bellin Run champions, Olympians and Boston Marathon winners are expected to compete in the Bellin Run on Saturday, June 9.
Elite runners joining the 42nd annual run are:
- Uta Pippig, 1995 Bellin Run female champion, former Olympian and winner of both Boston and New York City marathons
- Joan Samuelson, four-time female Bellin Run champion and 1984 Olympic gold winner
- Bill Rodgers, Bellin Run male champion in 1978 and winner of Boston Marathon and New York City marathons.
Run officials say one match to watch in this year's run is defending 2017 Bellin Run champion, Kaitlin Gregg Goodman, facing off against Risper Gesabwa. Gesabwa had an unprecedented fifth straight Bellin Run Title before Goodman beat Gesabwa last year. In 2016, Goodman came at a close second to Gesabwa.
Goodman's brother and professional runner, Brendan, will join the men's elite field for his first-ever Bellin Run.
Also returning this year are crowd favorites Meb Keflezihi and Jared Ward.
Registration for the Bellin Run is available online at BellinRun.com. Cost is $30 per person through June 1. After June 1, the price increases to $35.
Runners can also register in-person on Friday, June 8 at Astor Park for $40.
The half-mile Children's Run, ages 10 and younger, will be Friday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is $12 per person through June 7. In-person registration is also available on June 8 for $15.
