4th annual rucksack march raises awareness for veteran suicides
On Veterans Day, hundreds of people gathered at Stadium View Bar & Grill bright and early to begin the 22-mile rucksack march.
The march is a way to bring awareness to veteran suicide.
Participants walk or run the 22-mile journey carrying a rucksack or backpack that weighs 22 pounds to remember the 22 lives that are lost everyday from veteran suicide.
Many of the participants are active, non-active, and veteran military personnel, however, it was not a requirement to join in on the march and show support.
The money raised will help those who are suffering from mental illness and are considering suicide.
FOX 11's Lauren Kalil was live from the start of the event showing us how participants are preparing for the journey ahead.
