Blizzard Evelyn smashes records in Green Bay, Appleton

(WLUK) -- Blizzard Evelyn set records in Northeast Wisconsin -- and the final numbers aren't even in yet.

The National Weather Service says the blizzard dumped 21.2 inches of snow on Appleton -- a record for a single storm, topping the 19.5 inches on Dec. 12-14, 1909.

In Green Bay, Evelyn was the second-largest snowstorm, leaving 24.2 inches on the ground. The largest total from a single event was the 29 inches measured on March 1-2, 1888.

Those numbers do not include the snow that fell into the late morning hours on Monday, so those totals will rise slightly.

This month is already the snowiest April on record in both locations. Incredibly, the NWS says 54 percent of the season's snowfall has come in April in both Green Bay and Appleton.
