Packers talk upcoming season at Tailgate Tour sendoff
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Current Green Bay Packers Blake Martinez, Kenny Clark and Ty Montgomery talked about the upcoming season as the team reports for the start of its offseason program next week.
“I just can’t wait ‘til next season, can’t wait to get in the locker room, start working with the guys and getting the playbook," said the defensive lineman, Clark.
As a new season comes, more expectations come along with it for these returning players.
“That’s kind of one of the things I want to up my game is just making sure I’m a vocal point out there," said Martinez. "Being that guy that everybody can go to and I’m a person that is making everyone better around me.”
“I know that I can be a really good football player I just need to stay healthy," said Montgomery. "That’s something I haven’t been able to do my rookie season and last season. The two seasons before that I wasn’t playing for almost half the season. I’m looking forward to getting one healthy season under my belt.”
The Packers have a revamped staff heading into 2018 including new offensive and defensive coordinators.
“My mindset going up to this is kind of back to my rookie season where I think I spent four or five hours a night just making sure I worked through the whole entire install," said Martinez. "I learned every position. Learned what everyone is supposed to do and just kind of dive in it that way and just use that method to make sure I can be ready for whatever they ask me to do.”
The locker room will have a new look as well, the Packers signing big name players like Jimmy Graham and Muhammad Wilkerson. And losing key pieces like Morgan Burnett and Jordy Nelson.
“It’s definitely going to be different, but different doesn’t necessarily mean bad," said Montgomery. "I think we have guys in the locker room that can lead us, guys for a lack of better word that can step up to the plate or however you want to put it, but I don’t have any doubts about this locker room.”
