Kirk holds four-stroke lead at Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic
HOBART - Australian golfer Katherine Kirk shot a 7-under in round 3 of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic Saturday to take a four-stroke lead into the final round.
Adding onto her impressive second day, the veteran fired a 65 on the afternoon to set a three-round course record of 196 (-20).
"Really weird actually, I know I can putt well but I'm pushing the limits right now," Kirk said.
"It's fun, I made a 19-footer on the 17th hole and 19-footer on 18 for par, so it's unexpected but you take it when you can."
Picking up where she left off on day 1, South African Ashleigh Buhai also fired a 7-under to move into second place at 16-under.
"There's always going to be nerves when you're trying to win a golf tournament and are in the final group, no matter where you're playing," Buhai said.
"I've known Katherine for a long time, I think it will be good for the both of us to be in each other's company. I think we have similar games, I'm looking forward to it."
Currently, Japan's Ayako Uehara and England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff are tied for third place with a 13-under par through the three rounds.
American Tiffany Joh is currently tied for fifth, eight strokes off the lead at 12-under.
