Katherine Kirk shoots 63 Friday, jumps to the top of the leaderboard
ONEIDA (WLUK) -- Friday we saw some more exceptional golf played at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic including a round of 63 shot by Katherine Kirk. As of Friday it is a tournament best.
"Yeah I just hit quality shots and had lots of looks inside ten feet which is nice, because the chances are much higher of making those than when you're outside ten feet," said Kirk. "I think it may be my best on the LPGA. Yeah, I'm trying to think. I know I've had eight but I don't know about nine, so yeah I was really happy with it. Obviously I'd love to win, but there's still a lot of golf to be played and it's only Friday so I can't get too far ahead of myself."
Play was halted just before 4 o'clock Friday at Thornberry Creek due to dangerous weather and half of the field has yet to finish their second round. As it stands, Kirk is five strokes ahead of Katherine Perry who has the best score of golfers who haven't completed their second round.
Kirk has two career wins on the LPGA Tour, her most recent came in October 2010 at the Navistar LPGA Classic.
