Ashwaubenon's Berkovitz selected in NHL draft

ASHWAUBENON - Matt Berkovitz, a defenseman for Ashwaubenon High School was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round of Saturday's NHL draft. Berkovitz tallied 41 points on 11 goals and 30 assists this past season for the Jaguars. He was the Fox River Classic Conference player of the year and also voted first team all state by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association.
Berkovitz is scheduled to play for the Chicago Steel of the USHL next season. He has also committed to play for the University of Wisconsin following his time in the USHL.
Berkovtiz is the first Green Bay area player to be selected in the NHL draft since Max McCormick of Notre Dame was picked by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round of the 2011 draft.
