Winneconne falls short in D3 state title game
MILWAUKEE (WLUK) -- Winneconne knew it was going to have to play the perfect game Saturday to have any chance of beating Catholic Memorial in the Division 3 girls soccer state championship game, but it didn't take long for the perfect game to be ruined.
Less than nine minutes into the game Memorial scored and cruised form there, beating the Wolves, 4-0, en route to its sixth straight state title.
Memorial out shot Winneconne, 13-3, as the Wolves didn't have a shot in the first half.
While a four-goal loss may not look impressive Winneconne pushed Memorial, which won its semifinal game, 10-0.
"I am extremely proud of everyone one of them. We never imagined we would ever get this far," Winneconne coach Megan White said. "We're a small little school, D3, and we managed to beat people in the semifinals and get to this round and it's 4-0 against a team that can normally cream any D3 school so I'm extremely proud of how well the girls did this year."
Winneconne goalkeeper Sadie Kosciuk, who starred in Winneconne's state semifinal shootout win over Edgewood, made three saves for the Wolves.
