Thursday's Game Time highlights: Kimberly wins three FVA titles
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Kimberly won three Fox Valley Association titles Thursday.
In volleyball, Kimberly defeated Neenah, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-17 to win the conference title with a 9-0 record.
Neenah, the defending Division 1 state champion, finished 8-1 in the FVA.
In cross country, Kimberly won the boys and girls titles, but individual titles went to other schools.
In the girls' race, freshman Anna Fauske held off Appleton North senior Mary Rose Flood to win in a time of 18:10.
"It was close and she's a great competitor," Fauske said. "I'm glad I have her to push me and at the end I knew it was going to be one of us and one of us just had to kick it in. I almost felt like I was going to fall over but I knew I had a little bit left that I could push through it."
In the boys' race, Neenah's Matt Meinke showed why he has the best time this in the state this season. The junior ran down Oshkosh North's Wesley Shiek on the second lap and won in a time of 15:03, three seconds off his best time of the season.
"I wanted to run fast," Meinke said. "Wesley Sheik just pushed the pace and I really wanted to just catch him and put the hammer down. I'm glad with the win."
Also, the girls state tennis tournament started Thursday and concludes Saturday.
