Team Pilotfish defeats Overtime in 50th Holy Cross Men's Open
KAUKAUNA - It was a thrilling finish to the 50th annual Holy Cross Men's Open with Team Pilotfish defeating Overtime Sports 103-95 in the championship game.
A back and forth game between two teams full of local standouts, the Pilotfish squad held a 54-51 halftime lead and hung on down the stretch to claim the 2018 title.
Former Wisconsin Badgers forward and Green Bay Southwest alum Aaron Moesch was named tournament MVP.
"It was fun to come back here, see the familiar faces," Moesch said. "Fun to see the high schoolers out here, I know they haven't had a high school team playing in this in a long time. To get a lot of local talent together, the crowd was ridiculous, a lot of energy. Cool to be back."
Kaukauna standout and soon-to-be West Virginia freshman Jordan McCabe took home the Most Popular Player award.
"It was really fun being able to run up and down," McCabe said. "You could see that out there. we enjoyed playing with each other, that's pretty awesome."
Tournament director Lee Vander Sanden said the tournament was among the best in his 25 years with the event and expects to build off of this year's success.
