Preble hires Gresen as its new football coach

Green Bay Preble hired Dustin Gresen as its new football coach.

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Green Bay Preble has named Dustin Gresen as its new football coach, succeeding Tim Larsen, who resigned after the 2017 season.

Larsen had been with the Hornets for four seasons, made the postseason each year and compiled a 21-18 record, including 6-4 last season.

Gresen was Larsen's defensive coordinator and is looking forward to his new position.

"I wanted to become a head coach at some point in my career," Gresen said. "I'm excited, but it's more so about them, not about me. I'm not a coach that's a me-me coach. I'm about those young men and getting them ready for life."

"We are excited to welcome Dustin as our next head football coach," Preble athletics director Dan Retzki said. "Dustin has shown a passion and drive for the game of football that that have proven to motivate our players. It became more and more clear through the interview process that Dustin was the person that understands our culture and can step into our program and continue the success we have had the past few years.

" His experience through playing the game and coaching make him an effective leader. We look for Dustin to do great things with our Preble football program."

Gresen graduated from St. Norbert College in 2009 and before coaching at Preble he was the defensive backs coach at Ashwaubenon for five seasons.

Gresen, 30, is hoping to take the Hornets to the next level as they have become regular playoff participants but have not made much noise in the postseason. Preble is 2-11 in the playoffs since 2001.

"Our expectations are very high," he said. "Compete for conference championships and then making and winning in the playoffs.

"There are plenty of athletes at Preble. My job is to put them in the right spots to be successful."

Gresen's head-coaching debut will be Aug. 16 at home against Ashwaubenon.
