Preble baseball loses in state quarterfinals
GRAND CHUTE (WLUK) -- Green Bay Preble's quest for an undefeated season came to a screeching halt Tuesday in a Division 1 state baseball quarterfinal as Eau Claire North topped the Hornets, 9-0, at Fox Cities Stadium.
Casey Roeserhad the Hornets' lone hit in the first inning and Preble base runner even reached second base.
Meanwhile, North broke open the game with a 7-run second inning in which they had four hits and two errors.
"We haven't been in that a position," Preble coach Andy Conard said. "We just have to stay the course and keep playing and that's what I thought the kids did. We just weren't able to get anything generated today.
"I wanted to get a little momentum and get some runs on the board, see if maybe we could gets into their bullpen which we did. We weren't able to solve them either, but it was a different position to be in.
"We just play regardless of the score and go out to play our game and that's what we tried to do."
This was Preble second straight state tournament appearance after making the semifinals last season.
