GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The Green Bay women's basketball team will open up NCAA Tournament play Friday against Purdue at Notre Dame, Ind.

The Phoenix (27-5) is seeded No. 8, while Purdue (22-12) is seeded No. 9.

The winner will play the winner of No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 16 Robert Morris on Sunday.

Green Bay played at Notre Dame earlier this season and lost, 71-67.

Green Bay clinched the automatic berth with its Horizon League championship victory over Detroit on Mar. 7. The Phoenix will be making its 17th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and for the eighth time in the last nine seasons.

In last year’s NCAA Tournament, the 10th-seeded Phoenix fell to No. 7 seed Tennessee 59-53 in Tempe, Ariz., in the first round. Green Bay lost as a No. 9 seed to No. 8 seed Princeton 80-70 in College Park, Mary., in 2015.

The Phoenix last faced Purdue back on Nov. 19, 2015, in West Lafayette. Green Bay won that game in double-overtime 81-78, upsetting the 24th-ranked Boilermakers on their home floor, avenging its loss to Purdue at home the year prior.

Also, Marquette is seeded No. 5 and will play No. 12 Quinnipiac on Saturday at Coral Gables, Fla.
