Phoenix fans gather for NCAA Tournament watch party
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Fans gathered at the Bar on Lime Kiln Friday to cheer on the Phoenix women.
The Bar offered St. Paddy's Day specials as well as Phoenix giveaways.
Fans watched the game on a giant projector.
Although they didn't get the outcome they'd hoped for -- the Phoenix lost to Purdue, 62 to 74 -- a former Green Bay basketball player, and Phoenix Hall of Fame Inductee, said that despite the loss, the girls had an excellent season.
"Just proud of the fact that we have another team that went to the NCAA tournament and a strong team. I think they represented us well," said Jeanne Stangel.
This is the the women's 16th appearance in the tournament.
The team made it to the Sweet Sixteen back in 2011.
