Military comes before NFL for West Ashley's Brett Toth, 1st Army player in Senior Bowl
MOBILE, Alabama (WCIV) —
Former West Ashley High School football standout Brett Toth made history Saturday, when he was the first Army football player to play in the Senior Bowl.
Toth, who played offensive line for the Black Knights, showcased his talent for NFL scouts in the Senior Bowl. He's also eligible for the NFL combine this spring, and and may even get drafted.
But, an NFL career for Toth will have to wait on his military service. He'll be commissioned into the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation from West Point, and will serve at least two years, trading his football uniform for that of the United States.
"I don't feel bad about it," Toth says. " I went to West Point intending to do at least five years of service, and I credit what I've become today as man to West Point. ... I'm excited to do my two years."
