Badgers defensive line set to lead in 2017

Possibly the Badgers top position groups will be the defensive line, where they return every starter from last year's team.

MADISON - The Wisconsin Badgers football team held their final fall camp practice open to the media Saturday morning.

With less than three weeks until their season opener against Utah State, the team continuing to build an identity before their September 1 kickoff.

Possibly the Badgers top position groups will be the defensive line, where they return every starter from last year's team.

The combination of lineman Conor Sheehy, Olive Sagapolu, Garrett Rand and Chikwe Obasih limited opponents to less than 100 yards rushing per game last season,

Wisconsin is confident the combination of experience and depth will make them even more potent in 2017.

"It's always good knowing we have young guys willing to step up and kind of take their role as the season progresses," Sagapolu said. "And it's kind of good for them to get some reps, especially during fall camp. It's kind of for us to better us a whole, as a team."

"The whole defense is a huge component to all of this, it's not just the D-line," Rand said. "We have a bunch of returning players that have that experience and the chemistry. They played together awhile. That's going to be good too. The whole defense is like that. We got a lot of guys coming back, so that's good."
