Wisconsin Rapids man charged, accused of drugging pregnant woman
WAUSAU (WLUK) -- A Wisconsin Rapids man is charged, accused of drugging a pregnant woman to cause her to miscarry their unborn child.
Jeffrey Smith, 32, is charged with first-degree intention homicide of a unborn child and delivering a prescription drug.
The woman told investigators after she informed Smith she was pregnant with his child, Smith encouraged her to get an abortion but she insisted she was keeping the child.
The woman, who was 20 weeks pregnant, told officials on the night of Jan. 27, she noticed residue in a bottle of water Smith gave to her.
Without drinking it, the woman turned the bottle over to investigators to have it tested, WSAW reports.
It was determined the substance added to her water was prescription medication used for the sole purpose of terminating a pregnancy.
According to court documents, a doctor said a fetus born at 20 weeks would not have a chance of survival.
