Income tax filing deadline fast approaching
(WLUK) -- If you haven't filed your income taxes yet, you have a few more hours.
Tax returns must be received or postmarked by midnight on April 17.
The deadline was extended this year because April 15 fell on a Sunday and April 16 was Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, D.C.
To make the filing process easier, the Department of Revenue suggests to use its self-service options.
You can also pay your taxes online.
If you need to file an extension, you can request one at IRS.org. The extension request must be filed by April 17 to avoid late filing penalties.
To date, more than 2.4 million income tax returns have been filed. The Department of Revenue expects another 250,000 between now and the deadline.
