(WLUK) -- A Neenah native who now lives in the Madison area says she is running for governor as a Democrat.

Michele Doolan announced her candidacy in a news release Monday.

According to her campaign website, Doolan is the wife of a Gulf War veteran and business owner.

“Wisconsin government isn’t working; we feel it, we know it, we see it every day," she said in hew news release. "The people of our state have always been about determination, cooperation, and Midwest values that have been lost in the bickering and partisan fighting.”

The Democratic primary to challenge Republican Gov. Scott Walker is shaping up to be a crowded one. State Rep. Dana Wachs also announced his candidacy Monday, and Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik and political newcomer Bob Harlow have already announced their candidacies. State Superintendent Tony Evers, state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, political activist Mike McCabe and former state Rep. Brett Hulsey, who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2014, as well as Madison Mayor Paul Soglin all are considering runs.
