Police say the chase started in neighboring Chippewa County and continued until the driver stopped in front of his home in Eau Claire around 1:30 a.m. Friday. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and fleeing an officer. Then he was taken to the Chippewa County Jail in Chippewa Falls.
Eau Claire Police Lt. Derek Thomas says that during the follow-up investigation, neighbors reported hearing a sound like a gunshot earlier in the night. Police then found a woman dead inside the home.
Thomas says they won't know the cause of death until the autopsy results come back. He says the investigation will take some time. But he says the public isn't in danger.
