290 pounds of marijuana seized in Trempealeau Co. bust
TREMPEALEAU COUNTY (WLUK) -- Law enforcement officials say a marijuana bust hauled in almost 290 pounds of pot in western Wisconsin.
Officials say it happened Thursday after two separate pursuits that started near Osseo in Trempealeau County.
State patrol was trying to stop two vehicles, suspected in transporting what they called "a large amount of illegal contraband."
Officials say both vehicles sped off.
One driven by a man stopped quickly, and officials say he tried to run away but was taken into custody.
The other, driven by a woman, led police on a 30-mile chase before being forced to stop.
In addition to the marijuana, detectives say other drug items, three firearms and two stun guns were recovered.
Police say the driver of the first vehicle is 32-year-old Joel Helding of Tomahawk and the second driver arrested is 25-year-old Valerie Flores, of Wausau.
Both drivers were booked into the Trempealeau County Jail for outstanding warrants, felony eluding and drug possession with intent to deliver.
