Court to release John Doe documents this month

Gov. Scott Walker

MADISON (AP) - A federal appeals court plans to release nearly three dozen files in a lawsuit over an investigation into Gov. Scott Walker's 2012 recall campaign and a host of conservative groups.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order Monday saying it has received 34 sealed electronic files from the federal district court in Milwaukee. The appellate court said it plans to release them to the public on Aug. 19.

Prosecutors are looking into whether Walker's campaign illegally coordinated with conservative groups through a so-called John Doe probe, where information is tightly controlled.

Wisconsin Club for Growth has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop the probe. U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa in Milwaukee has stayed the investigation. Prosecutors have appealed.
