Tornado confirmed in Florida; officials assessing damage
PLANTATION, Fla. (WPEC) — The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado with 86-110 miles per hour hit the Plantation area in South Florida overnight.
Crews began clean-up efforts early in the morning after the twister touched down on Nob Hill and Northwest 6th Street, and then traveling all the way through Cleary and Northwest 98th.
The National Weather Service estimates the tornado stayed on the ground for about nine minutes, hit top wind speeds of 95 mph, and traveled about five miles.
The National Weather Service will be in the area to assess the damage.
The Briny Breeze community off A1A also took a hit.
There are still several hundred people without power in Palm Beach County.
