GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Wisconsin Christmas tree growers are helping U.S. troops get into the Christmas spirit.

The annual "Trees for Troops" collection took place in the Lambeau Field parking lot Tuesday.

Volunteers loaded the trees onto FedEx trucks to be delivered to U.S. military families across the country.

Trees will also be delivered to troops overseas.

One grower who donated said it's important to show appreciation for those who serve.

"I personally have family and friends that are serving in the military, along with numerous people in this industry who have served in the past and again; it makes us feel like we can do our small part to make them feel at home," said John Grutza, co-owner of North Country Christmas Trees.

"Trees for Troops" is nationwide program.

Last season, it collected more than 17,000 Christmas trees and delivered them to 63 U.S. military bases in the U.S. and abroad.
