ASHWAUBENON - A company familiar to the Fox Valley is expanding to the Green Bay area, and the move brings hundreds of jobs with it.
West Corporation, based in Omaha, Nebraska, is expected to hire 240 new workers within the next year.
West leaders say they will lease the former Associated Banc-Corp headquarters building on Hansen Road in Ashwaubenon.
The building has been empty since the bank consolidated operations in downtown Green Bay two years ago.
West officials say the office building the right fit to grow its operation.
"We're starting with a small group of about 10-20 people, but we're expanding as we go. Hopefully within the next year, I think our projection is to be up to about 240," said Katie Johnson, West Corporation Human Resources Divisional Director.
Johnson says the full time jobs will pay $30,000 to $50,000 a year.
"We do sales for other businesses. We also do brand enhancement. Full account management, and that's what these positions are going to be. Account management positions for our industrial division," said Johnson.
West worked with the regional marketing group, The New North for the past few months. NEW North Executive Director Jerry Murphy says his group provided West information beyond the building.
"Available daycare, commuting patterns, transportation services. All these types of things of attributes are really those things that drive them in the decision about the location," said Murphy.
Murphy says the former Associated Banc-Corp building will need little work.
"It's a class A property. You think of it from the standpoint of a business vacating a property like that, and a business looking for a property like that," said Murphy.
West employs nearly 1,000 workers at two Appleton locations. The corporation has offices in Middleton, and Wausau as well.
"Our growth in Green Bay is really about growth for the company," said Johnson.
In the meantime, West plans to hire, soon.
"We're very excited to be in the Green Bay area, and I really know that they have the pool of talent that we need," said Johnson.
The company, which reports 32,000 workers worldwide says it will begin hiring right away.
The office is expected to be operational with at least a few workers by the end of the month.
