Sheboygan boy rescued from collapsed sand dune

SHEBOYGAN - Sheboygan County Sheriff's officials say an 11-year-old boy is okay after becoming trapped in a sand dune Saturday afternoon.

It happened at Kohler-Andrae State Park around 2:30.

The boy was digging a hole in the dune, when the entire side came down on him. The dunes are around 50 to 60 feet tall.

Emergency crews say more sand fell onto the boy as they dug to free him. Despite that, they were able to get the boy's head out of the sand relatively quickly.

He was hospitalized as a precaution.
