GREEN BAY - Mayor Jim Schmitt went to unusual heights to accept the "ice bucket challenge."

Schmitt climbed to the top of the Zippin Pippin roller coaster at Bay Beach Amusement Park to participate in the challenge. "Ice bucket challenge" participants get a bucket of water and ice cubes dumped on their heads to raise money to fight ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

After pouring a bucket of water on top of his head, Schmitt challenged De Pere Mayor Michael Walsh, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels and Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna to participate.

The ALS Association says it has received around $5 million in donations in the past few weeks since the challenge has become popular. Celebrities, politicians and sports stars have taken part, including Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Milwaukee Brewers players Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Gomez and Kyle Lohse and former Packers tight end Tom Crabtree.
