Safe Haven Humane Society receives grant
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A local animal group is receiving money from a campaign not only to help care for the animals in its care but also toward the goal of opening a new shelter.
Safe Haven Humane Society in the Howard-Suamico area received $5,000 from Petco Tuesday.
The foster-based rescue was chosen to receive the grant because of an essay written by 12-year-old Ellen Tellstrom.
The essay talks about how a pair of adopted guinea pigs have become her support animals for her health condition.
Ellen's mother says she is happy that she made a difference.
"What we were talking about on the way down here is how exciting it is that she's able to provide this cash, so someday the next children looking for their forever pets for their forever homes, she will be able to say she had a part in that," said Ellen's mother, Kathy.
The grant is part of Petco Foundation's Holiday Wishes Campaign.
