Police: 16-year-old Arkansas boy source of Fond du Lac High School threat
FOND DU LAC (WLUK) -- Fond du Lac Police say they have identified the source of a social media post that led to an increased police presence at the high school on Monday.
Police say the message was posted on Snapchat by a 16-year-old boy in Arkansas who had previous ties to the Fond du Lac area.
When the boy was interviewed by authorities in Arkansas, he admitted to authoring the post, police say.
Authorities in both Wisconsin and Arkansas are working on possibly filing criminal charges.
According to a letter to parents from principal Matt Steinbarth, the post read: “Attention Fondy Highschool [sic] students - I’ve been informed that there is going to be a school shooting tomorrow (3/5/18). I don’t know if this is true but I wouldn’t trust it don’t go to school tomorrow!”
Classes were held as usual on Monday, but parents had the option of keeping their students home from school, Steinbarth said. There were no incidents during the school day.
School leaders also plan to hold classes as usual on Tuesday, with an increased law enforcement presence.
Steinbarth recommends parents listen to their children and take concerns seriously, and monitor their children's social media activity.
