TOWN OF TRENTON - Dodge County authorities believe the theft of a gun and ammunition from a home is related to a series of vehicle thefts and car chases in two counties over the weekend.

The incidents started around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in Fond du Lac County. The sheriff's department says a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle for reckless driving on Hwy. 175. The driver didn't pull over. After an 11.5 mile chase, the driver eventually crashed the vehicle in a ditch in Dodge County. This vehicle was reportedly stolen from the Berlin. Sheriff's officials say the driver ran away and stole a second vehicle near the crash scene. Sheriff deputies later located that vehicle in the town of Oakfield in Fond du Lac County. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department then took a report of a third vehicle stolen in that area. That vehicle was last seen in Dodge County.

Then, just before 8 p.m. Sunday, a homeowner in the Dodge County town of Trenton returned home to discover that someone had broken in and stolen a gun and ammunition, as well as a vehicle that was parked there. Sheriff's officials think that theft is related because of how close it is to the crash scene from the second chase the previous night.

Dodge County authorities say they are investigating a person of interest in the case.
