Operation: Building Hope helps local family
KAUKAUNA - One student's idea sparked a project that brought others together.
Students from seven Fox Valley schools came together to build and fund a home through Habitat for Humanity.
The project is part of Operation: Building Hope, which was a graduation gift to the community.
On Saturday the final project was unveiled.
The group raised more than $100,000 for the project. They also spent more than 450 hours on construction.
Habitat for Humanity says the project was a valuable life experience for the students.
"Volunteering on a habitat site teaches new skills; you learn new things as well as meet new friends." said John Weyenberg, the Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Fox Cities. "A lot of students here worked side by side with people they've never met before and are leaving here with new friendships and memories that will last a life time."
As for the family, they received a special plaque and their keys at their home dedication ceremony.
