Oneida Nation honors Army code talkers

GREEN BAY - The Oneida Nation and others are celebrating some special Army veterans.

Friday, people gathered at the Oneida Nation Veterans Memorial to honor four World War II code talkers. They are Rupert S. Adams, Hudson Doxtator, Rimton Doxtator and Lloyd Schuyler.

Family members were on hand to take part in a special plaque and medal unveiling. They say it's special to have their family members honored ahead of the holiday weekend.

"I think it's great that he's finally being recognized, and we get to share not only his accomplishments but Oneida's and the community's as part of the efforts of what they've done for us and our country,” said Keith Doxtator, grandson of honored veteran.

In 2013, House and Senate leaders presented the Congressional Gold Medal to families of code talkers. It is Congress’ highest recognition and honor for service to the nation.
