One person injured, 8 displaced in Kaukauna house fire

KAUKAUNA - Eight people are without a home after an early morning house fire that injured one person.

The city of Kaukauna fire department was called to 716 E. 9th Street around 5:30 Saturday for a report of a fire on the front porch.

Firefighters arrived to find the front side of the house on fire with smoke coming from the eves.

The house, which was converted into upper and lower units, had five residents living downstairs and three residents upstairs. Three other people were also staying upstairs.

Upon arrival firefighters were told all residents of the lower unit were able to escape. Residents of the upper unit said one person may still be in the home.

Fire crews were able to use a ladder truck to extinguish the fire and began a search for the person inside the house.

Firefighters eventually found him, and he was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

The house is a total loss. The Red Cross is providing assistance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
