MARINETTE (WLUK) - Marinette County authorities have released the names of the officers involved in a deadly shooting earlier this month.

The shooting happened December 7th in the Town of Peshtigo.

The Marinette County Sheriff's Department says two deputies and two Marinette city police were involved. They are been identified as:

  • Deputy David Oginski
  • Deputy Spencer Elias
  • Officer Greg Haemker
  • Officer Derrik Maye

The man officers shot was identified as 35-year-old Jesse Cole Shuping of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Officials say Shuping had been in the Marinette area for the past six weeks. He spent some time at a local shelter and recently befriended a local person who allowed him to stay at her home.

Authorities also say the incident at the motel appears to be an attempt by Shuping to collect a debt be believed was owed to him by someone staying at the Budget Inn Motel, 1301 Marinette Avenue.

Officials say all four officers involved have completed their formal interviews with the Department of Justice.

State law requires the D.O.J. to investigate deadly incidents involving officers.

The officers remain on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
