Nomination process begins for Golden Apple Awards
(WLUK) -- FOX 11 is once again teaming up with Partners in Education for the annual Golden Apple Awards.
Some area teachers were surprised Monday with a well-deserved 'thank you' treat.
FOX 11's Michelle Melby went to Heritage Elementary School in De Pere and talked with some first and third grade students about the Golden Apple Awards nomination process, while FOX 11's Tom Milbourn delivered the message to students and staff at Parkview Middle School in Ashwaubenon and FOX 11's Mike Murad went to Franklin Middle School in Green Bay.
It's the event's 25th year, which recognizes outstanding teaching in the area.
Educators look forward to the opportunity to highlight the new and innovative ways teachers are helping kids learn.
"It really shows a lot of the innovative things that are going on in school districts," said Heritage Elementary School principal, Kathy Van Pay. "There are so many different things that schools are doing and this really gives an opportunity for teams to highlight what they're doing with kids."
Students at Franklin Middle School say a great teacher is a mix of motivation, encouragement and sense of humor.
Teacher, Abby Porter, says it all comes down to forming relationships, "Just really talking to them, getting to know their background, besides science and what's going on in class and I think, you know, each year, building and creating new and changing standards, everything happens and changes and makes it exciting every day."
You can find the nomination forms at participating schools and online.
The deadline is Friday, Oct. 27.
