DE PERE - Some new restaurants are coming to an old building in De Pere. Work is underway at the former Sports Corner building on the corner of Grant and Fifth Streets. The new owner said it will be home to another Julie's Cafe location, a banquet space and a restaurant featuring burgers and craft beer.Remodeling work on the 102-year-old building has been happening for a month. The 13,500 sq. ft. structure was once a hotel."That is something you take pride into, to save an old building in a community like De Pere," said owner Troy Metzler. "You get to keep the history of the building. There's still the old Roffers sign out front of the building that we're going to try and restore and bring in."Metzler said the cafe should be open next month. The new restaurant, which will be called the BrickHouse, will open a few weeks after that.He said they plan to hire 45 full and part time employees. Julie's Cafe already has locations in Green Bay and Howard. The Sports Corner closed two years ago.
