New Jersey man arrested for graffiti in Manitowoc

Police say an 18-year-old New Jersey man was caught spray-painting graffiti.

MANITOWOC - Manitowoc police have arrested an 18-year-old New Jersey man after he was caught spray-painting graffiti at a marina.

Authorities received a tip of a man vandalizing a sign on the pier Tuesday night.

Police say four different spots on the pier were damaged.

The man is facing criminal damage to property charges.

Police say this incident is separate from vandalism found around the city's lighthouse area last week, but add the extra attention has residents on alert.

"I think the community awareness has really been heightened especially through the media and our use of social media,” said Manitowoc Police Department Deputy Chief Bridget Brennan. “People are more aware of it and are keeping their eyes open.”

Anyone with information about the recent graffiti is asked to call the Manitowoc Police Department at (920) 686-6551.
