Neenah Police: Man hit by train
NEENAH (WLUK) -- A 28-year-old Menasha man was hit by a train in the 100 block of North Lake Street near the parking lot of Herb and Dolly Smith Park Sunday.
The Neenah Police Department says the call came in around 7:15 p.m.
The investigation shows the man was a passenger in a vehicle headed southbound on Lake Street. The vehicle had stopped for a northbound train at the crossing. The man wanted to get to a location on the other side of the crossing and chose to leave the car and walk there.
As the man walked through the stopped northbound train, he was hit by a second train, traveling southbound.
The man was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. He is in critical condition.
The man was hit by a Canadian National train, according to police.
Investigators say the warning devices at the crossing, such as overhead and roadside flashing lights, bells and gates were all working properly at the time of the incident.
