APPLETON - A man died after being accidentally shot, police say.
Officers say they were called to a home in the 900 block of W. Winnebago St. around 7:45 p.m. Sunday. A caller told them a 55-year-old man had been shot by an acquaintance. The acquaintance was looking over a handgun when it went off, police say. The victim was hit by a single round.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died. An autopsy was planned for Monday.
Appleton police talked to several people who were inside the home when the shooting happened. They believe it happened while several guns, which had recently been fired at a shooting range, were being cleaned.
No one else was hurt.
