Man convicted in $14M scrap metal fraud case
FOND DU LAC (WLUK) – An Oshkosh businessman was convicted Thursday in a scheme that bilked a Fond du Lac firm out of $14 million.
Sterling Kienbaum pleaded no contest to racketeering and theft by false representation. Four other theft counts were dismissed, according to court records.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for May 2-4, with sentencing on June 5.
The allegations stem from 2008 to 2015. Kienbaum, of Fox Valley Iron & Metal, paid employees of Sadoff Iron & Metal to accept overloaded scrap vehicles filled with dirt, inflating the check from Sadoff for the supposed metal content, according to the complaint.
The two Sadoff workers were convicted and put on probation.
