Driver, 14, leads deputies on 115 mph chase
MANITOWOC COUNTY (WLUK) -- A 14-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger were arrested after they led sheriff's deputies on a chase with speeds reaching 115 mph, sheriff's officials say.
The incident started around 12:45 a.m. Friday when a vehicle was reported stolen from the 1200 block of S. 13th Street in Manitowoc. A few minutes later, a sheriff's deputy saw the vehicle headed north on N. Rapids Road. Deputies tried to pull the vehicle over on Hwy. R, but the driver sped up. Eventually, he lost control near Novy Road in the Town of Gibson, spun around and stopped in the southbound lane of Hwy. R. The driver tried to make a U-turn and keep going, but he went into a ditch and got stuck.
The driver was arrested immediately. The passenger ran off, but deputies found him and arrested him a few minutes later.
Sheriff's officials are recommending the 14-year-old be charged with fleeing an officer, recklessly endangering safety, operating without owner's consent, operating under the influence of a controlled substance, operating after suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The 17-year-old, identified as Aaron D. Booker of Manitowoc, was arrested on a warrant for a previous vehicle theft case. Sheriff's officials are recommending he be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, but no formal charges have been filed in this case. His bail has been set at $1,250.
