Kimberly vandalism spree ends with car in river
KIMBERLY - Someone spray-painted homes and vehicles, stole a car, damaged a softball field and dumped the car into the Fox River - and police think all the incidents are related.
Fox Valley Metro police say they were called to the 400 block of S. Main St. in Kimberly around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. They discovered blue spray paint on five houses and six vehicles in the alley between Main and Sidney streets.
Around the same time, a car was reported stolen from the 100 block of S. Main St. Police ended up finding the 1999 Saturn SL2 in the Fox River near the boat launch at Sunset Park. Investigators then found that two fences and turf at one of the park's softball fields had been damaged; they believe the stolen car was used to vandalize the field.
The car was unlocked with the keys in the ignition when it was stolen, police say.
Total damage was estimated at several thousand dollars.
