Fire crews extinguish blaze at Kaukauna lock
KAUKAUNA - The Kaukauna Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at one of the Fox River locks Saturday evening.
Crews arrived around 6:15 to find the north lock gate #5 on fire. Officials say the lock is made of heavy timber and metal.
Fire authorities say the fire was quickly extinguished.
Officials say Friday a demolition crew was working on removing the gate and had been using a torch. Due to the size of the timber it had not been properly extinguished before the crew left.
The cost of the damage is estimated at less than $5,000.
No one was injured in the incident.
