(WLUK) -- Three Kewaunee County sheriff's deputies and one Kewaunee police officer are on paid administrative leave following the shooting of a man last week.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation identified the officers as:

  • Deputy Jamie A. Tlachac, a five-year veteran of the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • Sgt. Dustin E. Smidle, a 22-year veteran of the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • Deputy Jordan D. Salentine, a three-year veteran of the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • Officer Brian D. Gale, a four-year veteran of the Kewaunee Police Dept.

Tlachac was the deputy who shot and killed 22-year-old Tyler D. Whitmire Aug. 21, DCI says. The other officers' roles in the case have not been specified.

The incident began when officers were called to Hwy. AB in the Town of Franklin for a report of a man threatening a woman and nearby residents with a knife. Tlachac shot Whitmire when Whitmire confronted officers, investigators said last week.

DCI is working with the State Patrol and the state crime lab on the investigation. Once that is finished, authorities say they will forward the results of the investigation to the Kewaunee County District Attorney's Office.
