PULASKI (WLUK) -- As a student wrote numbers on the SMART board in Kendra Wetzel's class at Lannoye Elementary, in Pulaski, it's clear both have a passion for learning.

"I'm giving them the foundations. I really hope that I'm give them those foundational skills and the tools and the strategies that they need in order to grow each year," said Kendra Wetzel, Golden Apple recipient.

She is in her seventh year of teaching and says technology is an important part of her students' daily activities.

"Kids are growing up in a technology driven world and if we don't give them those skills to succeed in technology, they're going to struggle," she said.

Wetzel also stressed the importance of letting her kindergartners make their own decisions.

"We also have a lot of choice in what they're going to do in what order. So, I'm giving them the skills that they need to be able to make smart choices together, problem solve, use technology," she said.

And, as long as her students continue to show they're motivated and excited, Wetzel feels like her work is complete.

"Working with kindergarten, it's so much fun," she said. "Every day is different; it's exciting. There isn't a part of my day that I don't love."
