Preparations underway for Cellcom Green Bay Marathon

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- It's a hobby that runs in Jasmine Vansluys' family.

"We've all been runners, but not quite marathon runners, so she's our first, she's our pioneer of the family," said Renee Manceo-Vansluys, Jasmine's mom.

Sunday, Jasmine will be checking one item off her bucket list, as she participates in the Cellcom Green Bay Half Marathon.

"It was my trade off to stay in shape, and it was a personal goal of mine, to get out there and do it," she said.

Vansluys was one several participates Friday, who picked up their bibs, in preparations for the big day.

Toni Jackels is the race director.

She says the weekend kicks off with some family friendly races, "It's our 5-k, which includes the Preva 'Love to Run' program, and then we have the WPS Kids Power Run."

Something 8-year-old Madeline Chopp, has been looking forward to, "I'm really excited," she said.

Jackels says more than 12,000 people have already registered for this weekend's events.

If you're looking to join in there's still time.

She says the race will have on going registration through the weekend, "Tomorrow were accepting registrations for the WPS kid's opener, and for all of our distance events, so how many we end up with is up to the community."

As for runners like Vansluys, she says after crossing the finish line, she's hoping for two things,"Finishing strong hoping to be under two hours, and looking forward to a big dinner after."

Volunteers are also still need for Sunday's event.

Jackels say anyone interested, can show up and stop by the Expo area in the Atrium of Lambeau Field.
